What you get, dimensioned

1900 740 breadboard end stretcher, drawbored trestle feet chamfered 3 mm
Elevation, drawn to the sample dimensions. Your drawing arrives with your own numbers on it before anything is cut.

What it is

Four boards, jointed and clamped overnight, then flattened across the width with a jointer plane rather than a sander so the surface keeps its facets under raking light. Breadboard ends are drawbored: one pin tight at the centre, the outer pins in elongated mortises, which lets 900 mm of top move through the seasons without opening a gap at the joint.

The trestles knock down. Two wedges out and the whole thing goes up a stairwell in three pieces, which is the only reason a 1900 mm table fits into most flats at all. Reassembly takes about four minutes with a mallet and no fasteners.

Where it goes wrong, and what we do about it

Tables fail at the ends first: the breadboard splits, or the top cups over a radiator. We keep the moisture content at 8 to 10 percent before cutting the joint, leave the outer pins loose, and finish both faces of the top equally so it dries at the same rate top and bottom. If a table we built ever cups past 2 mm across the width, bring it back.

Board provenance: [set species/source]. Milled by [set your mill], air-dried [set months], read at [set moisture] percent on the day of cutting.
